| Welcome To The Dance Haven’s Class Descriptions Page. All classes are graded by age and ability. Each class is designed to teach techniques in a positive way to allow the learning process to be fun, yet fulfilling through constructive teaching methods. Not sure, which class is the right one? Competitive Dance Classes & Reperatory Dance Theater
Mini Ballet/Tap/Jazz Competition Team Ages 6-8 - Must have taken ballet/tap/jazz prior to enrollment. This class teaches team work and helps encourage a love for performance. Students will learn ballet, jazz and tap technique and perform at one local competition. They will perform in our annual recital and have the opportunity to perform inn other events.
Acro Dance Competition Team Ages 8 & Up - The Acro Dance Team combines ballet jazz dance, traditional artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics and stunt work. It requires balance, power, and flexibility. Students learn the fundamentals of contortion and tumbling, and combining these skills with partnering and group stunts. Students are required to participate in ballet/jazz classes. This class has a strict attendance policy, competes in one or two local competition and performs in the annual recital.
Lyrical & Jazz Competition – Ages 9-12– This class is designed to teach the students the importance of working together as a team. Students develop even greater friendships, and respect for their dance peers while having lots of fun learning their competition routine. The class emphasizes on technique and performance. Students will compete in a style of dance that compliments the whole team. Students are required to also take one of the Ballet/Tap/Jazz classes offered during the week. We will enter in one or two competitions in the season, and they will perform their competition dance in our annual recital. Students may also have the opportunity to dance in any special events held by the studio.
Tap Competition - Ages 9-12 & Ages 13-18 This competition class is designed for the tap competitor who wishes to perform as a team in local competitoins and special performances. Class focus is on choreography and working together as a team. Students are required to take an addional tap class offered. We will enter in one or two competitions in the season, and they will perform their competition dance in our annual recital. Students may also have the opportunity to dance in any special events held by the studio.
Advanced Hip Hop Competition Team - Ages -13-18 - This is an advanced Hip Hop class for students who have taken the prior classes in the Hip Hop program, and have been promoted by their teacher. This class uses complex rhythms in connection with advanced body alignment to explore popping, locking, and tricks involved in basic break dancing. Students will be able to perform a variety of hip hop styles from flow to pop. Choreography lessons vary each class to prepare the student for the fast paced world of Hip Hop Dance. They will compete in local competitions and in our annual recital. Strict Attendance is enforced.
Tap Advanced Competition Team- Ages 14-18 – This tap class will incorporate a variation of advanced tap technique and rhythms through barre and center floor exercises. Students should have 6-8 years of a solid tap foundation and demonstrate intermediate and advanced skills to participate in this class. Students will learn more terminology and challenging combinations and will compete in local competition and perform in our annual recital.
Teen Musical Theater/ Competition Class - Ages 12-18 - A popular dance class that focuses on classical, modern, and contemporary musical theater jazz dance. This class is expressive and allows students to roll play. Students need to have at least two years of training in ballet or jazz and are required to take two additional subjects in addition to this class. Students may be required to take an extra Ballet Class by instructor. Students will perform in our annual production scene in our recital which is usually based on a musical. Students will also enter in one or two competitions per season. Strict attendance is enforced.
Reperatory Dance Theater/Competition – Ages 11-18 - This program is for students who want to further their dance education and take dance to a more challenging level. It is designed to prepare students in the technical and performance skills necessary to compete for post-secondary study and career development. RDT requires a high level of commitment from the student and parent. Special outside performances will be mandatory. Students participating in RDT are required to take a minimum of two additional subjects a week, one including Ballet. Students can take a second ballet class at no additional cost. Students will be placed in separate levels for lyrical & jazz. Highest level students will take contemporary, modern and jazz. Students are also required to take Flex class. All RDT Students will take Musical Theater & Opening Line Number Classes. They will enter in local competitions and perform in an additional required numbers in the annual recital. Note: Anyone interested in taking RDT will placed accordingly based on prior dance year.
